Michael Turinsky (AT)

BIOGRAPHY

Michael Turinsky lives and works as a choreographer, perfomer and theoretician in Vienna.
His interest focuses on an engagement with the specific phenomenology of the body, marked as disabled, its specific being-in-the world, its relation to temporality and rhythm, affect and affect production, gender and sexuality, visibility and invisibility; as well as on a rigorous engagement with discourses around the productive tension between politics and aesthetics.

Between 1998 und 2005 he studied philosophy at the University of Vienna. As a performer he collaborated with, amongst others, Bert Gstettner ("S*Cargo", "Soliman*Revisited", "Tanz*Hotel All*Inclusive"), Barbara Kraus ("Fuck all that shit"), Robin Dingemans and Mick Bryson ("The point at which it last made sense") and Doris Uhlich ("Ravemachine").
His most important choreographic works are "heteronomous male" (2012), "my body, your pleasure" (2013), "Second Skin - turn the beat around", "Second Skin - Master of Ceremony" (2016) and "REVERBERATIONS" (2018).
