The São Paulo state government has founded the dance school São Paulo Escola de Dança Ismael Ivo – Centro de Formação em Artes Coreográficas in honour of the dancer and choreographer who died of COVID-19 in 2021. The school will be located in the Complexo Cultural Júlio Prestes in the Luz district of central São Paulo.
The first class will start at the beginning of the second semester of 2022. The Sala São Paulo, home of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra (Osesp), the Resistance Memorial and Pinacoteca Station, as well as the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Industries are already located in the complex.
“It is a fitting and beautiful tribute to the great Ismael Ivo, who was very important for dance in São Paulo and Brazil. It will be the most important dance school in Latin America,” said Minister of Culture and Creative Industries Sérgio Sá Leitão.
The training at the school, which Ismael Ivo has long dreamed of, will last two years and focus mainly on technique. Among other things, courses such as dance and performance, dramaturgy, cultural production and management will be taught.
