Beep

Oscillating between masculinity and femininity or doing entirely without gender definitions, Polish choreographer Karol Tymiński relies on a body which acts like a receptacle that may be filled with all kinds of ideas and stories. The intense solo “Beep” is about the “beep test” applied in competitive sport to measure the athletes’ stamina, i.e. the physical exertion that takes performer Tymiński to the limits of his physical and psychological resilience. “Beep” starts with a single phrase of movement that accelerates continuously in an interplay with increasingly heavier sounds. The artist thereby takes himself and the audience to a state of near-trance.
