Love in dark times. Dance, dance, otherwise we are lost was the subtitle of Wim Wenders’ 3D film Pina. In his tribute, the director integrated spectacular scenes from Pina Bausch’s piece Vollmond, which premiered in 2006, three years before the exceptional choreographer’s death, at her place of living and working in Wuppertal. Vollmond is part of a series of so-called ‘night pieces’ by the founder and prime mover of German dance theatre: twelve dancers engage in the intricacies of romantic entanglements in constant rain on a moonlit stage in front of a massive rock.
