Tempus Fugit

"Tempus Fugit" Time flies, carried by a wind of irretrievable moments heaping up innumerable layers of events, thus enclosing manifold traces of both past and current societies. In his latest piece Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, choreographer of the successful work "Foi", concerns himself with the rhythm and speed of time, fascinated by its pattern of repetition and déjà vus. "Tempus fugit", created in collaboration with Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal, grips our time, our desire for eternal youth, our obsessive relationship with the past, the presence and future. How quickly do the hours of pleasure pass, and how tantalizingly slow those spend waiting or in pain º Eight dancers, male and female, three singers and a group of musicians are diving into the sea of time, are exploring caverns of timelessness in dance, are blurring the boundaries of cultural ties and knotting national identities. The 28 year old artist Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui follows Horaz’ famous words: "Think to yourself that everyday is your last; the hour to which you do not look forward will come as a welcome surprise."
