"Le Sacre du Printemps" A dancer, a conductor and his Stravinsky. Xavier Le Roy stands alone on the naked stage. He follows the expressive movements of conductor Sir Simon Rattle down to the very last detail of his mimics and posture. Watching the DVD of the famous documentary “Rhythm is it!”, the choreographer discovered scenes showing Rattle conducting Stravinsky’s “Sacre” on a bonus track. He asked himself which of Rattle’s movements had a conducting function for the musicians and which had a rather playful nature to them. The result of his analysing the conductor’s dance is a precise and humorous study of the relationship between music and movement and a reflection on the conductor’s power(lessness) while playing the game of music.
