Haru no Saïten/Un Sacre du Printemps

Six young women form a circle, lurk for each other, start a merciless battle, fall to the ground as if hit by lightning, crook and open their mouths for silent screams. „Haru no saiten“, a „spring sacrifice“ by France based Butoh queen Carlotta Ikeda and her partner Kô Murobushi, has Stravinsky’s music only rarely coming through. Their interpretation follows a path tiled by excess and expression, is bursting with unbearable inner tensions and harmonies lengthened with relish. The dancers turn into blades of grass, become ballerinas shaking with ecstasy, victims of sound storms. For once Butoh, the Japanese „dance of darkness“, has a go at a deeply European and modern theme, thus creating images of incomparable beauty, meditative silence, troubling eroticism and somnambule femininity.
