Ismael Ivo & Takashi Kako (DE/JP)
"Apocalypse"

Ismael Ivo © Hardy Richter
"Apocalypse" A pleasant melody with a little sadness in it comes from the piano. "If I close my eyes," says Ismael Ivo, "I can see Takashi Kako's hands and his whole body dancing. If I close my ears and look at him, I can still hear his music." The Brazilian dancer and the Japanese pianist conceived their joint work "Apocalypse"—directed by Ushio Amagatsu from the world-famous Sankai Juku dance company—as an intensive dialogue of music and movement. Out of the gentle sounds and gestures of awakening scenes of tension grow and moments of inner conflict shoot forth. Dancer and musician seem to be involved in a wild battle with each other... First performed in Tokyo in 1989, "Apocalypse" experiences a renaissance at ImPulsTanz.
