Danza y Frontera (Museum Version)

The latest work from the series Endangered Human Movements is based on a pre-Hispanic dance form used by the Spanish crown (Casa de Austria / Habsburg) in the conquest of Mexico as “Danza de conquista”. It is powerfully actualized today by dancers from the neighbourhood El Ejido Veinte of Matamoros in Tamaulipas, Mexico, in a context of extreme violence of border related drug trafficking, militarization and low-wage industries. In the museum, this border choreography resonates with the voices of all art forms that have been and are disregarded by and excluded from the Western canon.
