Liquid Loft (AT)

Still / Stranger Than Paradise (live / on screen)

What the...? Our bodies are effectively on their way to obsolescence? Well, it seems we have paid far too little attention until now and looked in our mirrors a little too short-sightedly. Bodies live in the here and now, and at the same time in a mirror world like Lewis Carroll’s Alice or the poet in Jean Cocteau’s film Le sang d’un poète. Mirror, mirror on the wall... Fair they are, the dancers in Liquid Loft’s piece Stanger Than Paradise, but they seem like dreamy stills, lost in the images of themselves, and melancholy in the face of the alternative worlds that open up in them. For more than 15 years, the company from Vienna and its choreographer Chris Haring have been an expert team for turning flesh into image, for transferring it to camera devices and other mechanical or digital prostheses. Today, the machines can no longer be ignored because, as seducers, they have long since started their own special dance with us. The resulting alienation of the body from itself is Liquid Loft’s point of departure for this two-part event featuring a performance and a film.
