How does Schuhplattling work the Italian way and as a contemporary dance? Alessandro Sciarroni – performer, choreographer and director – shows us. Together with five dancers he seizes the world-famous and infamous folk dance from Bavaria and Austria by its archaic repetitive patterns. This is not a satire but both an in-depth and an ironic rhythmical survey of the strictly regulated traditional dance. The dancers completely exhaust themselves in “Folk-s. will you still love me tomorrow?” to music by Mahler and Yazoo through to Lil Wayne, reminding us at the same time that, traditionally, Schuhplattling is a courting dance.
