This workshop aims to research the relationship of the perception of visual and vestibular systems. This study will relate the Body-Mind Centering methodology to embodied movement in relation to the sensory-motor aspect of our perceptual response cycle.
In dance and in diverse movement practices we know how important the different proprioceptors are to organise our sensory-motor experience. My interest concerns the dialogue of proprioception with the sense of movement to pursue and modulate body tone and to move in relation to the world with the eyes closed and opened.
During the BMC approach, we will use specific exercises for the exploration of perceptual elements applied in the classes. After that, each of the students will report their process and awareness of their perception. This material will be used to add to our understanding of how the tonus and vision relate to embodiment of the environment and the creation of new qualities of contradictions. The following questions will be explored: how do movers perceive and reorganise their visual world in relation to proprioception? How do we perceive movement in relation to space? How do our eyes get information from the environment and how do we use this influence to modulate the movement?
