Performing Biography – The stand-up way is a research practice created and taught by performance maker Lia Haraki, that focuses on how autobiography and personal stories can become meaningful sources for a performative practice. Partly inspired by stand-up comedy principles in combination with the life map method, the workshop focuses on how self-referential information and personal experiences become relevant to others: how to bridge the personal and the collective. The participants will have the chance to embody personal stories, perform confessions, exaggerate lies, manifest truths and expose hidden talents and faults in a series of short solos. Humour, drama, fragility and empathy are often part of the research for which we create a very safe group environment. For the intensive, Lia will be joined by the Flemish dance dramaturg Guy Cools, who has been working with her, supporting the development of her practice over the past 19 years. The workshop is open to artists and performers of all disciplines who have an interest in exploring autobiographic elements in their work.
