"Bach Suite 2" (Ch: Francine Lancelot, M: J.S. Bach) "Véronique Doisneau" (Ch: Jérôme Bel, M: P.I. Tschaikovsky) "Apollon" (Ch: George Balanchine, M: Igor Stravinsky) "O zlózóny / O composite" (Ch: Trisha Brown, M: Laurie Anderson) In “O zlozony/O composite” three stars of the Paris Opera Ballet dance weightlessly beneath a gigantic starry sky. Trisha Brown, a leading figure in American postmodern dance was commissioned to choreograph this piece by the Opéra’s ballet company. Laurie Anderson provides the delicate magical music in this magnificent piece. Brigitte Lefèvre, director of the Ballet de l’Opéra National de Paris, compiled this excellent four-part evening program that links together Baroque, neo-classic, postmodern and deconstructionism historically, and will be shown at ImPuls Tanz at Vienna’s Imperial Theater (Burgtheater). In his touching solo piece “Veronique Doisneau” dance conceptualism mastermind Jérôme Bel tells the story of a “simple” ballerina of the Paris Ballet - Doisneau herself - that shows how she reflects upon her life as a dancer and, aware of the strict hierarchy of ballet, deconstructs it. This is juxtaposed by the “Bach Suite 2” by baroque specialist Francine Lancelot in cooperation with Rudolf Nurejew. Giguen, Sarabanden, Bourreés, Courantes and Allemandes dance to Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Third Suite.” “Appolon Musagète” is a key piece for classical ballett moderne choreographed by George Balanchine to the music of Igor Stravinsky. This piece skyrocketed him to fame overnight at the age of 24. In this piece Apollo develops from a baby to a god of music who, with the help of three enchanted muses, brings the arts into existence: a fantastic ballet virtuously danced by the Paris Opéra Ballet .
